Do you have a summer bucket list? I do! I want to enjoy summer with the kids and create memories. My kids love to cook, so making homemade ice cream was on our list. This was a perfect idea for my Pinterest Challenge hop to because there are so many amazing homemade ice cream recipes on Pinterest. Welcome to the August Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! When I found No Churn Cake Batter Ice Cream via Gluesticks, I knew it was perfect.
It looks so yummy! Here are my ingredients to get started.
The kids and I followed the recipe from Gluesticks except for the chocolate sprinkles (click on her link above for the recipe). When I was in Target, I realized I didn’t have the ingredients on my shopping list. Since I was in the middle of Target’s baking aisle, I quickly looked at the recipe and gabbed chocolate sprinkles (not the pretty colorful ones like in her ice cream). Chocolate is chocolate! For the whipping cream, if you have a 16 fl oz. container it has exactly 2 cups in it so just pour it in. The recipe was easy and only took a few minutes to make.
Ice cream should have sprinkles! The kids loved shaking on the sprinkles.
The worse part of this whole challenge was the kids asking all day, a million times (it felt like it) “Is the ice cream ready yet?” We made it in the morning so we could have it for dessert after dinner because it needs 6-8 hours in the freezer.
Everyone loved it except for my husband who doesn’t really like cake, but he loves cake batter cookies. I can’t figure that one out. I’ll warn you it’s sweet and delicious. My son said “it’s even better then ice cream sandwiches and it’s delicious.” Ice cream sandwiches are my son’s favorite. My daughter said “Yum” and just kept eating it. I loved it! I’ve never had frozen whip cream and it was awesome on top of the ice cream.
3 Tips I Learned from Making this Ice Cream:
– Use the leftover dry cake mix to make cake cookies or a cake
– Take the ice cream out of the freezer for a few minutes before you go to eat it (it was a lot harder to scoop then store bought ice cream)
– Check your freezer for space to fit the loaf pan so it sits evenly and has nothing on top of it
If you love cake, you will love this ice cream. It’s creamy, yummy, and taste so much better then store bought ice cream. We give it 5 stars and will be making it again. This is a great ice cream for birthdays. Have you ever made homemade ice cream?
