This cute wooden tray caught my eye during my last trip to the thrift store. It was a steal at $1.48 and would be perfect for my gallery wall in the kitchen. This went from a tray to a Home Sweet Home Farmhouse Sign.

Creating the Home Sweet Home Farmhouse Sign
I cleaned the tray and sanded the sides and top to get off some of the green paint. Then taped the tray with painters tape because I loved the wood color and wanted to keep it.

On the top and the sides I painted Dovetail from Sherwin Williams which is the color of our bottom kitchen cabinets. To give it more of a farmhouse look, I distressed the sides and the top by sanding it. I used a piece of sandpaper and sanded by hand.
I like painting and standing, but I love finding SVG’s and designing signs. In Cricut Design Space™ I uploaded this Home Sweet Home SVG. I sized it to fit my sign and cut it in removable vinyl on my Cricut Maker.
Weed your design carefully so you can use it as a stencil and use transfer tape to add it to your sign.
I used white acrylic paint, a makeup wedge, and dabbed from top to bottom to paint the stencil.
I’m always afraid to try something new (I like to stay in my comfort zone), but I’m so happy I finally took a leap of faith. Honestly I’ve been talking about trying to stencil for awhile now and I finally did it (this is my 2nd project). Plus I think I’m addicted to making signs like this now. So if your thinking about trying something new, go for it.
Back to the project. I did 3 coats of paint and then peeled off the vinyl stencil. I used my Cricut Weeding Tool to take out the small pieces.
I’m so proud of this Home Sweet Home Farmhouse Sign and it’s the perfect first sign for my future kitchen gallery wall. I have the whole kitchen gallery wall pictured in my mind for when we finish the kitchen. I’ll be working on it in pieces and creating more signs as we continue working on our kitchen makeover. This is what we started with in the kitchen.
Another added bonus is that it matches my Hearth and Hand 2 Tier Cake Stand perfectly. I might have a small obsession with the Hearth and Hand with Magnolia Collection. Who else is feeling the pull to this collection?
