Ghostbuster Cupcakes- Pinterest Challenge

Welcome to the May Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month, I chose to make StayPuft Ghostbuster Cupcakes.

My son had a Ghostbuster themed party for his 5th Birthday and requested Ghostbuster Cupcakes. Pinterest is my go to for ideas like this. On Pinterest I found this video from Cake Decor on StayPuft Marshmallow Man Cupcakes that I made for his birthday.

Decorating the Ghostbuster Cupcakes

I watched the video several times, made mental notes and got started on creating these cupcakes. At first I made the faces on the marshmallows with the edible marker. This looked easy, but was actually hard. Even with the fine tip marker, it looked like a blob. I just figured out how to make the blobs into eyes and mouths.
These are the scary ones:

I used my circle tip and did the tops of the cupcakes with white frosting.

Next I moved onto cutting the marshmallows for the hat and that was easy. The tricky and sticky part was the airheads. Needing an airhead was impossible and frustrating. I didn’t even use a rolling pin because it was still to hard to roll out. I tried several types of knifes to cut the airheads into strips for the hat, but it was to hard to cut. Thank goodness I have kitchen scissors for food, they saved the day.

At this point I started to put the first cupcake together. I don’t have to many pictures because my hands were so sticky and I was anxious to see how it would come out.

I called my son into the kitchen. He loved them and said excitedly “Staypuft cupcakes! I love them Mommy!” and I was finished.

This had already taken me a lot longer then I had planned (it was almost 2 hours to makes 10 cupcakes, just decorating). I didn’t do the small details of the white on the airheads or the red tie. I’m calling this one a Pinterest halfsy in between a win and a fail. I refrigerated the cupcakes for the party the next day, but a lot of the Staypufts had leaning heads.

I would definitely suggest the Wilton Decorator Icing because it gets hard for this project to keep the head and hat together. As for the taste, the combination of the airhead and the frosting was so flavorful and delicious. The Ghostbuster Cupcakes were cute, yummy, and looked like Staypuft. All that mattered to me is how happy they made my son on his special day. It was worth all the hard work and sticky fingers to create a special memory for his 5th birthday!
