Last week for our summer camp at home the theme was Christmas in July. Our elf, Cookie, came back to visit. The kids are in love with our Elf on the Shelf and I reminded them that he was watching (just like Santa) all year. It really seemed to hit home with them. Their love for Cookie and the fact that they cared if Cookie saw them misbehaving, inspired me to make this DIY Elf Camera Ornament.
It’s the perfect craft for Christmas in July because sometimes Christmas just gets too busy to make this fun stuff. I decided to make my elf camera ornament out of a mason jar lid because I didn’t want it to be breakable because I know the kids are going to touch it (the sadness if it broke would be horrible). Here is another mason jar lid Christmas ornament you might like to make.

Let’s Create a DIY Elf Camera Ornament
The first step is to use the link above or search in Cricut Design Space projects for elf cam and open the project.
Size the image to fit your ornament. The mason jar lid is about 2.5 inches so I created a circle that size to fit the elf cam svg on.
Next weed your design and get the pieces ready to attach to the black circle.
Using the tape runner, I added the black card stock circle of the mason jar.
Using transfer tape, start adding on the vinyl designs using the Cricut scrapper. I started at the bottom and worked my way to the top.
I totally forgot about the white vinyl on the spy camera lens when I added it to the ornament. Oops, but it still looks like good and like a lens.
Place the circle part of the mason jar in the lid and then add hot glue all around the edge on the back. Then cover it with a piece of black card stock.
The last thing to do is add on the ribbon to hang the ornament and a pretty bow.
Your DIY elf camera ornament is ready for the tree and it a great way for you to remind the kids that the elf spy camera is watching no matter where it is in the house. This ornament is a great alternative too if you don’t want to do an elf on the shelf.
